On Saturday, April 18, 2015, Points of Light and generationOn hosted a one-of-a-kind Block Party at the Fox Studio lot in Hollywood to recognize Hasbro Community Action Heroes who are making a difference in their local communities, and WME (William Morris Endeavor) for their extraordinary commitment to youth and arts education in communities around the world. The Block Party was held on the final day of National Volunteer Week and served as an opportunity for families from across Los Angeles to join the chorus of young voices saying “yes” to the call to serve. Many young celebrities including The Foster’s Ashley Argota; Girl Meets World’s Rowan Blanchard, Corey Fogelmanis and August Maturo; Parenthood’s Tyree Brown and Xolo Maridueña; and Dog with a Blog’s Francesca Capaldi joined families at the Block Party to help amplify the call for kids to make their mark on the world through service.” ~ Points of Light Newsletter.
I was one of the ten Hasbro Community Action Heroes and I was given the opportunity to invite a few people to this amazing event; Kennedy and Jahkiyla were visiting LA for the first time and I extended the offer. I asked them to share their experience with us. Thank you GenerationOn, Points of Light and Hasbro for all the great work you have been doing to inspire and motivate young people. ~ Joshua
Jahkiyla:
The Fox Studios was amazing! We had a lot of fun and met a lot of cool people. I learned about different people and what they had to do to accomplish their dreams. They had a lot of hard-working people there, lots of fun activities and learning activities. I also liked how they focused on feeding the hungry. I thought that was a life learning lesson and to teach kids to stomp out hunger. I also liked that they gave awards to kids that have done a lot for our environment.
Overall, I really enjoyed the event and would love to attend the next event! I want to thank Joshua Williams for the invite to the Generation On Block Party! Love, Jahkiyla
Kennedy:
I was invited to the Generation On Block Party by award recipient, Joshua Williams, of the Joshua’s Heart Foundation. It was awesome to see so many kids receive awards for community service. It was very inspiring to me to see that kids can have such an impact on the world! Being an actress new to Los Angeles, it was exciting to see my favorite kid stars too!
The event was very well organized, and it was so much fun! I am so happy I was afforded the opportunity to attend! I would love to attend future Generation On events and to provide support to the project. The elderly are very near and dear to my heart, and the event motivated me to brainstorm ways I can support them.
Thank you so much,
Kennedy Hall
