Asa Carey is 17 years old and currently a high school senior (2017-2018 school year) at Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut. He was the president of the original Junior Advisory Board in 2008, and founded the CT Junior Advisory Board after moving to Connecticut in 2011, and has been the president ever since. In 2015 he founded the Joshua’s Heart Club at Staples High School to recruit volunteers for the chapter, and remains president of the club. Every fall he and the CT JAB organize a holiday drive to deliver new clothes (mainly coats for the winter), essentials, and holiday food to the Boys and Girls Village center for at-risk children.
Asa is a Verger at his local church, Christ and Holy Trinity, and serves there every Sunday mass. He also frequently volunteers there and partners the Joshua’s Heart club volunteers with community service opportunities hosted by the church, such as preparing and serving meals at the Gillespie Center homeless shelter. Asa is an honor roll student and has received honors all throughout high school, and is a straight A student. Asa loves to rock climb, play basketball with friends, and tutor other students at his high school.
